fighting smears with smears

Fight the SmearsApparently Obama isn't getting fair coverage in the press. Yeah, that statement doesn't make sense to me either but Obama's campaign has started a site called fightthesmears.com to combat evil republican attacks. Here is one of the current items.

SMEAR: Michelle Obama Says "Whitey" On a Tape

LIE: Rush Limbaugh says a tape exists of Michelle Obama using the word "whitey" from the pulpit of Trinity United
Unfortunately that's just not true. In fact it's a smear again Limbaugh who never said such a thing. It's kind of annoying because the very conservative Campaign Spot did a very good job debunking the rumor that probably originated from the Clinton campaign. Obama's Limbaugh smear is a bridge too far this time, even the Chicago Sun-Times concurs.
Well. No. This is what Limbaugh said:

"The rumor is -- and we don't like dealing with rumors here -- but the rumor is that Michelle Obama from the pulpit of this church used the term 'whitey.' Some are saying be very careful with this because she might have said 'why'd he,' why did he, the contraction 'why'd he' instead of 'whitey.' "

He added: "I can't find anybody who's seen it."

So while Limbaugh was happy to wallow in the rumor, he was careful not to claim the tape exists.
I don't expect the Obama campaign to distance themselves from the smear and I certainly don't expect the Senator to embrace the "new tone" he so eloquently rambles about all the time. In fact, Obama wants to bring a "gun to a knife fight." Welcome to Obama's brand of change, more of the same. At the top of the fight the smears site is a quote from campaign.
"What you won't hear from this campaign or this party is the kind of polities that uses religion as a wedge, and patriotism as a bludgeon - that sees our opponents not as competitors to challenge, but enemies to demonize. Because we may call ourselves Democrats and Republicans, but we are Americans first. We are always Americans first." - Barack Obama, June 3, 2008-
That's a pretty good quote coming from a campaign that's talking about fighting with guns and smearing their opponents. It sounds good, but Obama's actions aren't backing up his rhetoric.

Today Obama gave a "major speech" about his patriotism. It was another great speech, but an another empty one. Obama's allies and surrogates continue to wage attacks on McCain's character. It appears it is the strategy of the Obama campaign... [Read More]
