email and the environment

I consider myself a steward of the environment. I don't litter, I recycle, and I love the outdoors. Preserving parks and reducing pollution are all worth causes and I am a coordinator for a large green festival here in my home town. My main annoyance with the theory of Global Warming is that it distracts from a lot of important environmental issues that go largely unnoticed.

please don't print
It seems odd to me that I receive a plethora of junk mail everyday in my mailbox, but I should somehow feel guilty if I (God forbid) print an email. It seems to me that most people don't print their emails. I only print an email if it is a necessity. Do I need to be saved from myself? Is there a real problem with people printing their emails? Perhaps some people print too much, but my experience in an office tells me most people do not print their emails.

There are plenty of things citizens can do to help the environment, but this email signature is pointless. The only thing it does is relieve some kid of environmental guilt while sounding preachy and arrogant. I know I am particular, but the whole idea is a bit insulting. Perhaps people should consider the environment before sending the email.
